The Proceedings of The International Conference on Architecture, Urban Design and Settlement (ICArUS 2025) presents a collection of scholarly discussions and research contributions centered on the theme “Innovations in Sustainable Design and Material.” This proceeding highlights contemporary explorations in architecture, urban design, and settlement studies that respond to the growing global challenges of sustainability, climate resilience, technological transformation, and environmentally responsive development.
The publication brings together contributions from academics, researchers, and practitioners from various institutions in Indonesia and abroad. The papers encompass diverse perspectives and interdisciplinary approaches, ranging from renewable architecture, sustainable materials and construction systems, energy-efficient technologies, to innovations in urban design and settlement development.
Several chapters emphasize the integration of local wisdom and tropical architectural strategies with contemporary technologies such as Building Information Modelling (BIM), environmental simulation, and performance-based design approaches. Other studies critically examine spatial utilization, waterfront settlements, ecological resilience, learning environments, and regenerative architectural strategies in tropical contexts. These discussions reflect the evolving role of architecture and urbanism in addressing environmental, social, and cultural complexities within rapidly changing urban environments.
In addition to presenting empirical findings and design innovations, the proceedings also contribute theoretical and critical reflections on sustainable architecture and built environment discourse. The collection demonstrates how design decisions, material choices, spatial configurations, and urban interventions can collectively shape more adaptive, inclusive, and resilient future settlements.
Through this publication, ICArUS 2025 aims to foster international academic collaboration and strengthen knowledge exchange among scholars, professionals, and students in the field of architecture and urban studies. The proceedings are expected to serve as an academic reference and an inspiration for future research, design experimentation, and sustainable development practices in the built environment.
